Former Bar Managing Disciplinary Counsel and Assistant General Counsel
I advise lawyers and law firms on the ethical rules governing the legal profession. I provide ethics consultations, advice on bar-related matters, written opinion letters and, when a lawyer’s conduct is at issue in a contested matter, can serve as an ethics expert.
I practiced for 19 years at the Washington State Bar Association and have been in private practice for 7 years. I was a Disciplinary Counsel, Managing Disciplinary Counsel, and then Assistant General Counsel. I bring broad knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct, Rules for Enforcement of Lawyer Conduct and Admission and Practice Rules to every matter.
Practice areas include:
- Legal ethics consultations to proactively avoid client complaints and/or bar investigations;
- Written opinion letters on ethical issues affecting your practice;
- Expert services in litigation or other contested matters in which a lawyer’s professional conduct is at issue;
- Advice and assistance in responding to bar complaints;
- Advice and assistance with bar investigations;
Assistance with bar licensing issues, including applications by motion, reinstatement, character and fitness, corporate counsel requirements and Rule 9 applications.
My work on Bar complaints and Character and Fitness matters is primarily consultative. I do not currently represent clients at disciplinary or character and fitness hearings, but if your matter is headed to a hearing, I can help you find experienced trial counsel.
